Team Hailey 5k Run/Walk for a Cure

On Saturday April 26th we held the Team Hailey 5k Run/Walk For a Cure in Menasha. The course started at Germania Hall in Menasha and went over the scenic trestle trail bridge. The weather left a bit to be desired, but the day itself was a huge success. In some ways we think it is appropriate that the weather was a little rough…it was symbolic of our journey and kind of inspiring to see people battle through the conditions with a smile on their face and a great attitude.

Early totals put the net proceeds at around $43,000! Incredible! 100% of proceeds will go towards PLGA specific research. It was our biggest fundraising event to date by a mile.

Hope for Hailey: Win Big. Give Big.

This event was a huge success thanks to the UW-Whitewater AMA Chapter. They did an amazing job putting on a fun and impressive night. Proceeds from the evening raised about $15,000 for the PLGA Foundation, with all proceeds going directly to PLGA specific research. As an outcome of the event, two other major universities in other parts of the country have agreed to fundraise for PLGA Foundation in 2009 thanks to the presentation Carolyn Schweitzer gave at the national AMA conference in New Orleans.

Bowl for a Cure

The bowling event turned out to be a blast! Nearly $5,000 was raised for the PLGA Foundation because of this event, and the best part, is it was a blast in the process. The day ended with an incredible moment when Hailey, Faith, and Uncle Kurt rolled a strike together to win a "beat the pro" competition and the whole place errupted like they just won the superbowl! It was a really neat moment. Thanks to the bowling alley and Uncle Dave and Aunt Dee for making this event happen. They did a fantastic job.

Date: Wednesday, October 3, 2007

Time: 7:00 a.m.

Where: A lake up north somewhere

Event Report: Shannon's cousin, Jim Olson, finished his 24 hour fishathon this morning! We want to thank Jim and his family and supporters for taking on this challenge. Jim stayed up 24 hours straight, and then went right from the lake to the radio station to do an interview with a local radio host and Shannon (who was on the line by phone from Appleton). This event was just another example of the kind of tenacity and support we've received from those around us...and Jim was very smart to incorporate some good marketing and publicity along with it. The doantion numbers will not be in for a few weeks, but the most important thing may be the fact that Jim and his team helped raise more awareness up in the north woods, and hopefully helped draw more people to our website and to our cause. GREAT JOB JIM! We are blown away by the effort you gave on this and the support you and your family have provided us so far. Check out the links below to see the wausau/tomahawk area news story and radio interview regarding what Jim did and our cause....
